I remember the care-free feeling that surged through my body while listening to the Soca cassettes that we’d play on family road trips. The upbeat music seemed to make our exhausting trips more enjoyable and memorable. I’d also feel the same way whenever I heard the current Michael Jackson hit on the radio. These childhood musical memories are priceless and I’d like music to have this impact on me again. This is why I’ve recently started searching for some current feel good music to help lift my spirits.

I already have a couple favourite musicians and musical genres but sometimes it’s beneficial to venture outside the realm of the constant. In my teens I started appreciating the music of 2pac and Eminem and for a long time their music was all I’d listen to. And although they are and will probably be my favourite musical artists of all time, I found that sometimes their aggressive and depressing lyrics would negatively affect my mood. Don’t get me wrong, both of them have written and performed many uplifting, insightful and inspirational music but as a depressed person, I was most times drawn towards their more relatable songs.

Recently I’ve started listening to Janelle Monae and Adele, both of who I find to be amazing singers. Although hesitant at first, their albums far exceeded my expectations. Janelle Monae’s energetic creativity and Adele’s emotional yet flawless delivery has definitely reserved their spots in my “favourite musicians” list. Adele and Janelle aren’t the only new artists on that list though. On my search I’ve come across many new artists whose music I enjoy and has a postive effect on my mood. Some of these artists include: LMFAO, Kid Kudi, Cee- Lo Green, Keri Hilson and La Roux. So by engaging in the near impossible and venturing outside of my sheltered musical box, I’ve found some songs over the last year which have brought back that feel good feeling I thought I wouldn’t allow music to let me feel again and here they are:

Danza Kuduro – Don Omar feat. Lucenzo

Party Rock Anthem – LMFAO

Dynamite- Taio Cruz

Bonnie and Clyde – Destra

Blow – Kesha

Till The World Ends – Britney Spears

All of The Lights – Kanye West

Hey Soul Sister – Train

Are the above songs some of your favourites as well? What songs currently help with your mood? Below I’ve posted the videos of some of the above songs. Don’t forget to subscribe to the RSS feed and if you like what you’ve read please click on the “share” link below. Thanks again everyone.
